O&L Nexentury is proud to announce the commercial operation of the Wernhil Phase II Solar plant on 5th September 2022. The official inauguration of the plant took place Monday, 12 September, hosted by Broll Namibia, the owners of Wernhil Mall, where the newly installed carport solar PV system was put to use. This successful project is capable of producing 2 108 700 Kilowatt hours annually, and consists of advanced bifacial solar PV panel technology which captures sunlight on both sides of the panels. The 990 Kilowatt peak DC consists of 1571 Canadian solar panels and nine inverters and is an addition to the 1 130 KW peak DC which had been installed in 2019.
The Managing Director of Broll Namibia, Terence Makari, had a few words to share on the success of the project:
“We recognise our collective responsibility to urgently address climate change and this plant will greatly support us as we continue to reduce our carbon footprint by shifting to sustainable energy sources. Thanks to this installation we can expect a reduction in our carbon dioxide emissions of about 2100 tons per year as well as savings of an estimated N$1.28 million in the plant’s first year.
“I thank our technical teams at O&L Nexentury and Kraatz Engineering for their expertise and quality construction. I am also grateful to my colleagues at Broll Namibia and O&L Group leadership for their commitment to a greener future, as part of our greater Group Purpose of ‘Creating a future, enhancing life’.”
