The 600 kWp Rooftop Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Plant at the Hangana Seafoods processing plant in Walvis Bay, Namibia, has entered commercial operations on 19 March, 2021. The Solar System is the first, for O&L Nexentury, within the fishing industry which underlines the versatility of Solar PV applications and that of the O&L Nexentury team.
The Solar PV Plant, located at Namibia’s fishing-hub, the port of Walvis Bay, will produce clean energy for Hangana Seafood. The Solar PV Plant is in symbiosis with the cooling needs of Hangana Seafood and helps the factory avoid 1071 tons of CO2 emissions per year. The reduction in CO2 emissions reduces overall emissions throughout the entire value chain and logistics chain of the fishing industry, contributing to a sustainable future. In addition, the construction of the plant strengthens the O&L Group’s commitment to a greener and environmentally sustainable future which is facilitated by O&L Nexentury.
The plant was constructed using Canadian Solar PV modules and Huawei inverters. Kraatz Marine was subcontracted for the installation of the Solar PV Plant. The installation was headed by O&L Nexentury’s in-house engineering team and created 4 job positions which aligns with the O&L Group’s and Namibia’s Social Economic Development Goals.
